The Meisterhäuser, once occupied by the renowned Bauhäusler, underwent significant transformations after their departure in 1932. Unfortunately, during the final days of World War II, the houses belonging to Gropius and Moholy-Nagy suffered severe damage due to bombings. In the era of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), a new single-family house with a gable roof was constructed on the foundations of the Gropius house. However, this structure was eventually demolished, leaving the Masters‘ Houses with a fragmented history. (more information)
Introducing an Architektur der Unschaerfe
To address the gaps, a unique approach was taken in 2014. Instead of pursuing a historically accurate reconstruction, the Berlin architectural firm Bruno Fioretti Marquez (BFM) embraced an innovative concept – Architektur der Unschaerfe. This design aimed to ease a conscious and thought-provoking interaction between the existing building and its reinterpretation.
Fostering Deliberate Perception
The concept employed by BFM prompts a heightened sense of awareness and perception. The result is an architectural study that bridges the gap between the past and the present, honoring the legacy of the Bauhäusler.
